New U.S. State Department Travel Advisory Says Those in Ukraine Should Depart Now

On February 10, 2022, the State Department updated its language for the Ukraine Travel Advisory with updates to the threat level. In particular, the Travel Advisory now states: “…those in Ukraine should depart now via commercial or private means” and “U.S. citizens in Ukraine should be aware that the U.S. government will not be able to evacuate U.S. citizens in the event of Russian military action anywhere in Ukraine. Military action may commence at any time and without warning and would also severely impact the U.S. Embassy’s ability to provide consular services, including assistance to U.S. citizens in departing Ukraine”.

This is an updated language than what is found in the January 23 Ukraine Travel Advisory, where it said U.S. citizens should consider departing.

February 10 Ukraine Travel Advisory

On February 17, the State Department once again urged U.S. citizens in Ukraine to depart the country immediately, while commercial/private options remain available.
